Jonathan GuyonnetJonathan Guyonnet carries out a personal research into sound, with the aid of meticulous organological studies concerning the employment of historical instruments, in sight of a rigorous but lively reading, topical and expressive at the same time, never subjected to the ‘performance practices’. That’s why his interpretations are distinguished in textual accuracy, emotional intensity, theatricality, as well as in widespread improvisation.

He was born in San Remo and studied the violin in Montecarlo and in Paris. Very soon he began a collaboration, also in the role of leader and solo violin, with several French, Belgian, Dutch and Italian Baroque ensembles, in particularly with La Petite Bande, I Virtuosi delle Muse, Venice Baroque Orchestra, Les Talens Lyriques, Stradivaria, Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, Le Concert Spirituel, La Symphonie du Marais, Stradivaria, Caecilia Concert, l’Arte dell’Arco, etc.

As a baroque violin player, he has performed in the world’s most famous concert halls including the Musikverein and Theater an der Wien in Vienna, Mozarteum in Salzburg, Unter den Linden in Berlin, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York, Jordan Hall in Boston, Disney Hall in Los Angeles, Barbican Center and Wigmore Hall in London, Tonhalle in Zürich, Opéra Garnier et Thèâtre du Chatelet in Paris, Grande Salle de la Cité de la Musique de Paris, Salle Pleyel et Salle Gaveau de Paris, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid and the Oji Hall in Tokyo, and with artists like: S. Kuijken, P. Herreweghe, G. Leonhardt, S. Molardi, A. Marcon, V. Mullova, A. Scholl, A. Netrebko, M. E. Cenicic, F. Guglielmo, J. DiDonato, C. Bartoli, A. Kirschläger, S. Kermes, M. Kožená, D. Cuiller, D. Stern, C. Coin, G. Carmignola, C. Rousset, P. Goodwin, K. & M. Labèque, etc.

Many of the large number of CDs (Deutsche Gramophon-Archiv, Harmonia Mundi, Amati, Glossa, etc.), recorded by Jonathan Guyonnet performing Vivaldi, Bach, Händel and 17th century music, were awarded with prestigious international prizes, including the Edison Award, and numerous Diapason d’Or, Choc de la Musique, 10 de Répertoire des disques compacts.  Many of his concerts have been broadcast live by European, American, and Asian networks.

Since 2004 he is the concert master of I Virtuosi delle Muse, ensemble he co-founded together with Stefano Molardi. The group, performing Italian and German 17th and 18th century music, has won numerous prizes and awards.
